Cross Country Training

On Friday, week 2, term 3, we went to the cross country course for the first time this year. I was excited because this is something I'm good at. The real cross country is in week 6. The teacher told us where to go but I did not listen properly because I remembered last year's course.

The teacher said ''ready set go'' I took off like a firework. I was panting, sweat was everywhere. I looked to my left, the surf was pumping. I passed Koka Rozie, she said "you're a quarter of the way there". Max and I ran down the ditch, I tripped up and landed on my back but I kept running. I passed Koka Pip, she told me to keep running. I had 1 lap left. I went down the ditch again, this time I didn't fall over. I could see the finish line. I crossed it, then I collapsed on the ground.

As I was walking back, I thought what I could do better next time. But there wasn't too much considering that it is a 2 km run and our first practice of the year. It was fun to run the course again, I can't wait to go next Friday.

Penguin Project

Me and Max have been working really hard on our penguin, we painted him and did a lot of work on him. I think our next steps are to go around the edge with a Sharpie and to clean the lines up a bit. The teacher said that we should spray it with stuff that makes it waterproof, when it's done. We have two more days to finish it and I think we are going to finish it in time. Here is a photo of him. If you have no idea what I am talking about check out my blog from last week.

Life size penguin drawing

This term we had a 3 way focus, you could choose to make a diorama, picture book or a life-size drawing. For the diorama you had to make a diorama explaining the habitat of a little blue penguin.

For the picture book you had to make a book with a little blue penguin.

For the life size drawing you had to choose a NZ Penguin and do a life size drawing of it. Me and Max choose life size drawing we choose the fiordland penguin here is it so far.

Reading test

On Wednesday Koka Ngaire came into class meanwhile, we were all on the mat, she told me to find a space in the class and read this little story. I read it a couple of times.

Koka Ngaire came in to get me I followed her to the staff room. She got me to read the text out loud. After I read it out loud she asked me some questions.  Once I was done I returned back to class it was almost morning tea.

The text was easy to read but the questions were a bit hard. I think that I did the test on Wednesday because I was sick on Tuesday.

Beach Clean up

On wednesday, we did a beach clean up. The plan was to start at school and walk all the way down to pines on the beach. On the way back we would walk on the foot parth.

The teacher told us to get into a group of three Me,Max and Rori got together. We had to get a bucket so Rori went to get one. When we were walking to the beach I saw a guy getting barreled. Everybody was furiously looking for plastic because whoever gets the most plastic wins a prise. By the time we got to the hamanatua our bucket was almost full. I saw Max at the river were the water were coming out so I went over. There was a mini river wave I said "we should get a stick and finger surf the wave" I found a piece of bark that was perfect for the job. It was fun until Raphi did something wrong and we had to stop. On the way back we found a lot of styrofoam. overall we found 72 pieces and apparently someone else 300.

Adding Decimals

On Tuesday week 4, me and my maths group had to do a screencastify video to show that we can solve the equation. I was pretty nervous because I had just learnt the strategy to solving it. After brain break Koka Ngaire gave everyone in our maths group a piece of paper with a problem to solve my one said 754.023 + 576.978. Me and Harry went up to the room 6 and 7   break out room. First I did the question in my book and answered it correct so I get it right on the screencast video. Click below to see my video!

Back to School

So four weeks ago we started school and now i'm a year six. We have a new class which is way better and we got new carpet. I was actually pretty excited to start school because I broke my collarbone mountain biking so I didn't have much to do. But it was different with the old year six students gone.

On week two we walked to Hamanatua stream and ate some food there. We got some time to play at the beach too. On the same week we walked up Maungaroa (a really big hill) and that was tiring we ate some food at the top with the nice view. The reason we went to these places is because we wanted to walk our pepeha  and we went to our marae.
